Hydraulic External Clamps
Hydraulic External Clamps are high-performance pipe alignment tools that use hydraulic pressure to generate powerful, controlled clamping force around the pipe joint. Designed for demanding mainline pipeline welding, these clamps achieve precise external line-up on heavy-wall and large-diameter pipe where manual or chain clamps cannot consistently meet alignment tolerances. The hydraulic system allows the operator to apply and release clamping force quickly, significantly reducing cycle time between welds.
General Information
Hydraulic external clamps are selected for projects where wall thickness, pipe weight, or ovality makes achieving tight weld fit-up tolerances difficult with conventional chain or ring clamps. The hydraulic actuators distribute force evenly across the clamping lugs, reducing the risk of local pipe deformation and ensuring concentric alignment at the weld joint. Units are available in configurations for a wide range of diameters and are typically powered by a dedicated hydraulic power unit (HPU) that can serve multiple clamps on site. Their fast actuation cycle supports high-weld-count daily targets on large pipeline spreads.
